One of the most popular New York Yankees players of all time, Donald Arthur Mattingly, "Donnie Baseball" was only the 10th player in team history to be named caption. With a lifetime batting average of .307, Donnie compiled an outstanding 13 year career winning nine Rawlings Gold Gloves, six All-Star selections, one American League Batting Championship in 1984 and one AL MVP Award in 1985. He set a still unbroken Major League record in 1987 by hitting six grand slams in a single season. The New York Yankees retired Mattingly's number 23, August 31, 1997.
